REVIEW DETAILS
Step 1:
Click here for a list of all of the tournaments with links to all of the club communication and a link for the tournament flyer. All necessary information will be included here. The payment amount will be specified on the flyer and often varies for novice/open. There is an additional $0.50 processing fee and 3.2% credit card fee added by Sports Engine that is unavoidable. This amount will be calculated and provided to you on each tournament page.
Register
Option 1 (preferred):
Register directly with MYWAY at the following link (we recommend you register Monday when the link goes live at 7PM as tournaments often fill to capacity). You’ll need to select the tournament and follow the prompts under your individual SportsEngine login and pay the fee directly to MYWAY. This eliminates having to make Clarkston WC the middle man for your tournament fee and decreases the likelihood of errors. If you are still struggling, review this written tutorial created by Mike Nidiffer or view this video tutorial put together by Mike Redington.
After you register, email the following information to clarkstonwrestlingclub@gmail.com so that we can verify that you have a MYWAY card and put you on our list for weight verification at the scale.
example:
WK – Camden Place – 4/8/2015 – 57.1 – Open
DO NOT pay for a MYWAY card or a club fee. You should only be paying the tournament fee listed on the flyer.
Option 2:
If you cannot figure out how to register directly, we can handle the club registration for you provided that you get the necessary information to us by Monday at 5PM. If you miss the cut off, you will need to register your own wrestler. Be aware that Metro tournaments can fill up the same day that registration opens so if you wait too long, the registration may close. You’ll need to send a Venmo Payment to @clarkstonwrestlingclub with the following memo example (change information to reflect your wrestler):
example:
MR1 – Camden Place – 4/8/2015 – 58.7 – Open
If you have more than one wrestler you can combine more than one wrestler in the payment but be sure all of the pertinent information is there. If we get a payment without the complete information we have to go verify the information on the roster or reach out to each individual parent which is significantly more time consuming.
Please note that Venmo is the only option. If you do not have Venmo, coordinate with another parent to have them Venmo on your behalf. We are unable to accept cash. We will not register your wrester through Sports Engine until we have all information and the payment.
Weigh In
Step 2:
Weights are recorded at the scale on Wednesday or Thursday at your designated practice as registration closes at 10PM Thursday night. You must be below or at the cut off (AKA “Scratch weight”) on our scale. While tournaments may offer a “weight allowance,” that is purely to prevent wrestlers from skipping breakfast or becoming dehydrated to “make weight” the day of the event.
MYWAY audits mats for weight verification at post season tournaments. If your wrestler is audited and does not make weight, they are disqualified from the tournament and will be required to weigh in at every subsequent tournament. If it happens again they will require the whole club to be audited at every tournament. Therefore, we must verify the weight class provided by parents regardless of how registration was completed.
If you, the parent, aren’t planning to be at the scale, please make sure you remind your wrestler to ask to be weighed in. If you did not communicate with us, your wrestler will not be on the list. Further, if you wrestler checks their weight at the scale, it doesn’t count unless the coach writes it down.
Waiver
Step 3 (only applies for your first tournament):
For your first tournament, you need to affiliate and sign a waiver through SportsEngine. You will need to accept the invitation to join Clarkston Wrestling Club on Sports Engine (first email). After your wrestler is registered for their first tournament, we will purchase their MYWAY Card on your behalf (provided they are in Intermediate 2, Advanced, or Preseason) and a waiver will be emailed to you by Sports Engine (second email). If your wrestler is a cub or Intermediate 1, let me know and I’ll send you the link to secure their MYWAY card (Wrestling Membership). Your wrestler cannot compete until that waiver is signed. This only has to be done once per season. If you did not receive it, please reach out to me and I can investigate. I use the primary email that was provided at club registration through Clarkston Community Ed. If you prefer a different one, please email me at clarkstonwrestlingclub@gmail.com
If you wish to coach, your coach’ card is a separate membership at your own cost through Sports Engine and requires several training and a background check. Please reach out to clarkstonwrestlingclub@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Check Brackets
Step 4:
Please check your brackets at 7PM the night before the tournament to ensure accuracy. If anything is inaccurate, please email clarkstonwrestlingclub@gmail.com so that I can get with resolved with the pairer that evening rather than trying to fix it the morning of the event.
If you do not know how to navigate trackwrestling, please check out this trackwrestling.com tutorial to learn how to find your bracket and mat assignment.
If your wrestler is sick, email the club right away. Sometimes with enough notice we can have them removed from the bracket and your fee can be refunded. Refunds will not be approved for same day withdrawals due to illness/injury. Further, refunds are at the discretion of the regional host and pairer.
Compete
Step 5:
Show up to wrestle. All location information and start times are on the MYWAY flyer that is linked on each event link. We will start a private group chat for wrestlers at tournaments to prevent the team chat from being clogged. This is where we will identify which coaches/parents are available to coach and coordinate the mat we will warm up on. It is important that we warm up together to build team culture and club presence. If you are not seeing any group chats, you’ll need to update your app or uninstall/reinstall TeamSnap to resolve the glitch. Be aware that it is possible at the time of your wrestler’s match, a coach may not be available if they are covering other matches. You or your wrestler can alert the referee and they will delay the match and/or put out an announcement on the PA. This happens to a lot of larger clubs and is nothing to be alarmed about. Matches will not occur without a coach present.
You’ll need to have headgear, a singlet (reach out to Joe Berden if you do not have one), and shoes. Head gear can be purchased at Dunham’s or Dick’s (they are not provided by the club) and make sure to adjust it ahead of time. If you wear braces, mouth guards are required. In addition, be sure your nails are trimmed and if you have facial hair, make sure it is groomed.
If you have never competed, please reach out to clarkstonwrestlingclub@gmail.com to get additional support with navigating tournaments, warm ups, and snacks.
Why the strict timeline?
Please understand that we aren’t being sticklers about this for the sake of being sticklers. There are a lot of moving parts and we need to have the registration finalized and payments in by Tuesday night to allow for these other actions:
- Mike Redington, our volunteer registrar, has to obtain your wrestlers MYWAY card if we don’t yet have it for your wrestler and the waiver must be signed before we can finalize registration.
- We need to ensure we have enough coaching coverage for everyone competing.
- If you are new to wrestling, this allows us to coordinate extra support for you so that you don’t feel like you’re flying blind.
- The group chat on TeamSnap can be finalized sooner to allow for conversation and team Support.
Eligibility for MYWAY Regionals/States
MYWAY requires participation in two MYWAY individual tournaments (location, division and weight class do not matter) in order to qualify to compete at Regionals. Dual tournaments and other wrestling league tournaments (war zone, MMWA, etc.) do not count. Regionals separates combined age groups and drops novice division. Anyone that does not qualify to go to states can attend Future Stars as their final competition with the club.
